Seen and Heard Film Festival – Celebrating Women in Film
Seen and Heard is the first film festival of its kind here in Melbourne and is dedicated to celebrating the rich and diverse works from female filmmakers who are working in an industry that often under-represents their art.
Although the majority of filmgoers in both local and global markets are female, only 12% of the top 250 films from any country are directed by women.
Over a four day program at the iconic ACMI, the Seen & Heard Film Festival will showcase a wide range of highly regarded classics and exciting new films from women all over the world; from shorts to features and animations, to documentaries and experimental films, all put together so as to encourage greater discussion regarding women in film and to inspire better female representation in all aspects of filmmaking.
The theme for this year is ‘redefinition’, which centres on the idea that we need to redefine cinema as we know it to include, in equal proportion, the voices and stories of women as well as men.
